SPRING RACING CARNIVAL: DERBY DAY

Awaking to the sound of bucketing rain at approximately 9.00AM this morning, the first official day of Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival, instantly appeared far less appealing. But with my umbrella and definitely-bound-to-fly-away fascinator at the ready, we made the trek out to Flemington to admire all the fashions, and [somewhat unintentionally] ignore all the horses. And, as if the weather totally understood the kind of crazy damage this torrential rain would have done to our fashionable selves, the clouds parted, the sun shined and we arrived at Flemington entirely dry and ready to party…if by party, we mean – take photos of our every single fashionable movement for the next five hours, people watch and marquee hop.

AND SO IT BEGUN – With my two favourite race girls by my side (Kat from Two Halves & Sheetal from The 3000 Chapter), we checked out the likes of the LavAzza Marquee – the place to be if you wanted a good espresso; as the barista’s brewed up an absolute storm, we were fed all kinds of European delicacy’s in the stunning Italian-inspired, mid-century design tent. Next up, was the James Boag Marquee – with an absolutely exquisite menu on offer designed by Matt Moran, we sipped bubbles and admired the eye-catching nature themed design and décor. Last on our list for the day was the Schweppes Marquee. With a blue, red & white décor, we fell in love with the crazy cool cocktail options and Lost in London theme.

All up, an absolutely brilliant first day of racing FASHION. With only 3 days to go until ROUND 2, aka the race FASHION that stops the nation – make sure you are following along on all my socials to see everything first hand!
